Apollo Hospitals confirmed the death of Jayalalithaa who passed away on Monday evening at 68. Jayalalithaa, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu failed to recover from the cardiac arrest that she undergone on Sunday. Her passing away media reports were earlier denied by the Apollo Hospitals but then they confirmed it and announced that at 11.30 pm, she passed away. Apollo management has given the statement, “It is with indescribable grief that we announce the sad demise of esteemed CM”

In an ambulance, her body was taken to Poes Garden to her residence. Outside her residence as well as on all the roads that were leading to her residence, heavy presence was there of the police personnel. At Rajaji Hall, the body of Jayalalithaa will be kept so the public could pay their last respect to her. It is expected that for the last rites, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Pranab Mukherjee and vice president of Congress Rahul Gandhi will arrive today in Chennai. Seven days of sorrow has been announced by the state government and for three days, the educational institutions will be closed.

Over the death of Jayalalithaa, sadness has been expressed by PM saying that, “her demise has left a huge void in Indian politics”. As new chief minister, Oath has been taken by O Panneerselvam who is a senior party leader and her longtime adviser. On September 22, Jayalalithaa, popularly known as Ammaa, was admitted to Apollo and spent 75 days there. A specialist’s team was monitoring her regularly during this time. The state and of Tamil Nadu is in deep shock after her death, the roads are deserted and the shops are shuttered down.
